Camilla Läckberg

It’s always been my life’s dream to write detective novels. It first came true in 2003 when my first book The Ice Princess was published in Sweden and now, my seventh book, The Lighthouse Keeper has reached the shelves in Sweden at the same time as the rights to my books have been sold to over 30 countries worldwide. Here on my website you can find out about me, my books, and Fjällbacka, the place where I grew up and the scene of all my murders. Most of the characters in my books are fictional, but some are real people living in the area, and I’ll be telling you more about them in these pages. Happy reading! Camilla Läckberg

Camilla’s books are set in Fjällbacka, the coastal village where Camilla was born and raised. In northern Bohuslän, about 140 km north of Göteborg, lies the little community of Fjällbacka. Already a fishing village in the 17th century, Fjällbacka is now an idyll that’s steeped in history. Its name derives from the imposing rocky outcrop that the village encircles. Thousands of tourists visit Fjällbacka in the summer. For the rest of the year, there’s about 1,000 permanent residents. Fjällbacka might be small, but there are still hotels, cafés and shops. The best way to get to Fjällbacka without a car is by train to Uddevalla. You can also take a train to Dingle and from there take a bus to Fjällbacka, or alternatively fly to Trollhättan and make your way from there.

Crime-writers’ school – the seven steps I get lots of questions about my writing, many of them asking for advice. Unfortunately there are no miracle tips I can give. The most important thing is to make sure that you sit down and start writing, not that each sentence is perfectly composed. A wise person once said that writing is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration, and I can personally vouch for the truth of that! So don’t get in a stew over how the words fall – just make sure THAT they fall. Let the words just flow. In other words: write, write, write! Here, I’d like to present my own seven-part crime-writers’ school. Each part contains tips and exercises as well as some pointers for books that you might find inspiring. Good luck!

ridiculously busy...

We are still working on a good blog-tool, so still a little bit too far between my English blog-entrys….  But keep hanging in there!

I’m also ridiculously busy at the moment. My fiancée is a policeman here in Stockholm and he works full time in June now after being home with the baby since January, and off course it’s an almost impossible puzzle to piece together two people working full time and five kids added to that. (We don’t have five kids all the time now, must I add…)

I suppose a lot of you people who don’t live in Sweden now raise your eyebrows… Has my fiancée been at home with the baby since January? How? Why?  Well in Sweden we are very fortunate when it comes to parent leave when you have a baby. We have a full year, that we can divide among us, and it is becoming increasingly more common that the fathers take a lot of the parent leave as paternity leave.  For my fiancée it has been a wonderful experience and he and our baby Charlie has done some serious bonding during this time.  Martin has been blogging also about his experience of being “Mr Mum”, and even if you don’t understand a word of Swedish, there are loads of wonderful pictures of baby Charlie to check out on  http://www.coolapappor.se/bloggar/martin-melins-blogg/

But back to the issue of being busy. It has become quite a dilemma for me, that with my books being sold to 33 countries, and being on the bestsellerlist in lots of them, there are off course a lot of requests from abroad. Plus lots of requests from Sweden that requires my attention. But – I desperately also need to find time to write! It’s what I do, it’s what I love to do, it’s what I need to do! Otherwise there won’t be any more books…

So I keep struggling with the schedule and sometimes I feel like the calendar is my enemy, not my friend……

I guess I just have to really practice to say a really useful word… The word “no”…..

(in the picture above, my fiancée Martin and baby Charlie – or as we have nicknamed him  – “the last one”…. ;-)

is an extremely energetic and optimistic sea sponge (although his appearance more closely resembles a kitchen sponge) who lives in a pineapple under the sea with his pet snail Gary, who meows like a cat. Although Gary only actually speaks in a few episodes, the characters have shown an ability to understand him. Living two houses down from SpongeBob is his best friend Patrick Star, a dim-witted yet friendly pink seastar who lives under a rock. Living between the two is Squidward Tentacles, an arrogant and egotistical octopus who lives in an Easter Island moai and dislikes his neighbors (especially SpongeBob) for their child-like behavior. He enjoys playing the clarinet and painting self-portraits.

The Box Tops were a Memphis rock group of the second half of the 1960s. They are best known for the hits "The Letter," "Neon Rainbow," "Soul Deep," "I Met Her in Church," and "Cry Like A Baby," and are considered a major blue-eyed soul group of the period. They performed a mixture of current soul music songs by artists such as James and Bobby Purify and Clifford Curry, pop tunes such as "A Whiter Shade of Pale" by Keith Reid, Gary Brooker and Matthew Fisher of Procol Harum, and songs written by their producers, Dan Penn, Spooner Oldham, and Chips Moman. Vocalist Alex Chilton went on to front the powerpop band Big Star and to launch a career as a solo artist, during which he occasionally performed songs he had sung with the Box Tops

I got it bad
you don't know how bad I got it.
You got it easy
you don't know when you've got it good.
It's getting harder
just keeping life and soul together

I'm sick of fighting even though I laiow I should.
The cold is biting through each and ev'ry nerve and fibre

My broken spirit is frozen to the core.
I don't want to be here no more.

Wouldn't it be good to be in your shoes even if it was for just one da:
And wouldn't it be good if we could wish ourselves away.
Wouldn't it be good to be on your side

The grass in always greener over there.
Wouldn't it be good if we could live without a care.

You must be joking
you don't know a thing about it.
You've got no problems
I'd stay right there if I were you.
I got it harder
you couldn't dream how hard I got it

Stay out of my shoes if you know what's good for you.
The heat is stifling
bun@ing me up from the inside.
The sweat is coming through each and ev'ry pore.
I don't want to be here no more. I don't want to be here no more.
I don't want to be here no more.
Wouldn't it be good to be in your shoes even if it was for just one day. . . .
I got it bad. you don't know how bad I got it.
